Mobility Innovation Destination Torslanda is located at the heart of the Volvo Cars campus in Torslanda. Construction began in spring 2024 with an office block, the first new building in the initiative which marks a continuation of Volvo Cars’ electrification journey. Martinsons is supplying 917 cubic metres of glulam for the project.
“It feels great to be involved in such a prestigious and much-talked-about development. Being entrusted with this contract demonstrates a great deal of confidence in our ability to deliver timber frame systems,” says Hans Nordström, Key Account Manager at Martinsons.
Ambitious sustainability goals
Designed as five cubes, the new wooden office block will measure 25 000 square metres and sit opposite the headquarters of Volvo Cars on its completion in spring 2026. The building has ambitious sustainability goals, with a hybrid timber frame helping to reduce its carbon footprint. Wood will also be used prominently to harmonise with the building’s natural surroundings.
Hybridge Group is responsible for the frame of the first building at Mobility Innovation Destination Torslanda.
“We were looking for a long-term partner to work closely with and Martinsons fulfils the brief in every respect. They’re experts in wood construction and so easy to work with,” says Lars Bengtsson, project manager at Hybridge Group, which is Martinsons’ client on this project.
The main contractor for the construction project is BRA Bygg, the structural engineer for the frame is Optima Engineering and the assembly team is from GEMAB.
“In addition to supplying materials, our structural engineers have also helped with the design of the frames,” says Hans Nordström.
