Martinsons was involved in building Sara Kulturhus, right in the middle of central Skellefteå. This is one of the world’s tallest wooden buildings, with its 20 floors rising around 80 metres up from the ground. The total volume of the frame is approximately 10 000 cubic metres of CLT and 2 200 cubic metres of glulam.
The building elements for the frame were produced at Martinsons in Bygdsiljum, about 60 km from Skellefteå. The raw material comes from forests in the region and the short transport distance to the construction site naturally has an extra positive effect when it comes to lowering the climate footprint.
The new arts centre houses six stages, two galleries, a library and a foyer with an open and inviting floor plan. Sara Kulturhus will be home to Västerbottensteatern, Skellefteå Art Gallery, the City Library and Museum Anna Nordlander (MAN). The building also boasts a brand new hotel to meet the growing tourism in the region.
